I wish I had words to say, or type out. My heart aches at the thought of this man, and your heart/role/grief/guilt/shame. The tattoo, makes complete utter sense to me. Sorta like wearing the word of YHWH on your arms and foreheads, as the Levites did, reminding us of him. What bittersweetness. Much appreciation, brother, for what you do and how you care for others. That's so powerful. I especially love how his book talks of salvation. Such a cool way to view salvation. Not just a "get to heaven free" card - but a here and now salvation for his life today!

"Help those who are truly homeless?" What a douche move to dare to put something like that on the box! I've got change for the better, I'll give it to the people that these orgs won't help! At some point there will be enough of us doing things the right way (for little or no money) that the system will be forced to change. I know it's a pipe dream but I'm keeping it! ... Now get off my lawn!

I like to give actual food instead of cash when I can, but just handing off the cash is a lot easier. Depending where you're at, there can be so many in need, you can't possibly give to all without depleting your own supply. But you're absolutely right -- Jesus didn't call us to judge people before giving, he just told us to give.

Want to start a movement? We could do a combination weight loss/feed the homeless program together: when you go out to pick up lunch while at work, split it in half, then give half to a homeless person. You didn't really need the footlong sub anyway, and you'll help ease hunger.....
